CPD on Medical Surveillance at Grand Seasons, 3rd September 2016


The Society of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Malaysian Medical Association’s CPD on Medical Surveillance was successfully held at Grand Seasons Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. There were around 200 participants from the all over Peninsular Malaysia and also all the way from Sabah and Sarawak. The CPD started with the welcome address from Dr Priya Ragunathan, the Chairperson of SOEM-MMA, followed with talk on Toxicology in Medical Surveillance by Dr Salmaan the Head Toxicologist at PETRONAS and Medical Surveillance for Asbestos Workers by Professor KG Rampal, the Dean of the Perdana University Graduate Medical School. After the morning tea break, Wan Sabrina the Lead Industrial Hygienist from Shell Malaysia continued with the topic on Benzene Monitoring from the perspective of a Industrial Hygienist and Mr M Husain the Senior Executive OH/IH from PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd shared his experience on managing the Mercury exposure Medical Surveillance Programme in PETRONAS Carigali.

In the afternoon the session continued with an Updates to Regulations and Guidelines on Medical Surveillance given by Dr Ahmad Fitri the Director of Occupational Health Division, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health. Dr Lim Jac Fang from Papar, Sabah shared his experience in conducting Medical Surveillance for Pesticides Exposed Workers and Dr Gogillan from Hospital Kuala Lumpur on Medical Surveillance for Laboratory Workers. Throughout the day there were lively session of discussion after the speakers have completed their presentation. Overall the participants were satisfied with the topics and speakers.

The next SOEM-MMA CPD will be on Preventing Occupational Diseases – A Collective Task, which will be held on the 8th October 2016 at KSL Resort, Johor Bahru, Johor.
