Notification of Occupational Diseases


Occupational diseases is notifiable under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and the Notification of Accident, Dangerous Occurrence, Occupational Poisoning and Occupational Disease) Regulations 2004. Under this regulation all attending medical doctor who suspect or diagnose a case of occupational disease must notifiy the Director General of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health.

The notifiable conditions include,

  1. Poisoning from exposure to chemicals and gas
  2. Infections due to exposure to biological agents
  3. Respiratory diseases due to exposure to chemicals, dusts, fibres and gas
  4. Cancer due to exposure to chemicals, dusts, fibres and gas
  5. Diseases related to heat exposure
  6. Musculoskeletal conditions due to exposure of ergonomic hazards
  7. Diseases related to working in hyperbaric conditions
  8. Diseases related to working with vibration tools

The full list of notifiable occupational diseaes are listed in the Third Schedule of the Regulation.

The Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Ministry of Human Resources have developed the e-JKKP7. The e-JKKP7 allows medical practitioners to report occupational disease and poisoning through online system.
